Wonderful, friendly lady running the hostel. She was so welcoming and ready to help. The hostel was in the center of town so everything was within walking distance. We loved the view and the upstairs, comfortable lounge.

Personne chargée de l'accueil pas tout le temps dans son bureau durant les horaires indiquées, nous avons donc dû accueillir 3 personnes pendant que nous étions dans la cuisine...

This hostel is probably not frequently used by people doing the typical Iceland trip. Therefore, there is not an awful lot to visit in the vicinity. Well, there is the lighthouse - in fact 2 of them - the local pool, a mountain and the harbour. We were lucky enough to be given a "room with a view" upstairs over the harbour. The cleanliness of the kitchen downstairs was not really acceptable and did not match the bright and pleasant interior of the rest of the hostel which is an old chemist's.

My wife and I stayed one night at the Akranes hostel. While we had a little trouble finding it, we did enjoy the location because there was an excellent bakery within easy walking distance down the street. We liked everything about the hostel. The hostess was very friendly. The rooms, bathroom and kitchen were all clean. We especially appreciated the community bag of coffee and coffee maker. About 10 minutes away is Mount Akrafjall which offers some excellent hikes.

We had a good night's sleep here and it has the best hostel kitchen I've ever used, because it had clearly designated "shared food" areas in the fridge and cupboard for all those extras you are not always going to carry around. The ability to donate excess food is ecological too. A very practical building, but hardly any other visitors when we were there, so a bit soulless.
