A modern youth hostel with international flair, Interlaken Youth Hostel is located right next door to Interlaken-Ost Railway Station and is the ideal starting point for excursions in the entire Jungfrau mountainous region.

The hostel has a range of rooms available from 6-bedded dorms through to double rooms, a south-facing terrace with fantastic views of the mountains, and facilities including free Wi-Fi, restaurant, bar, lounge with an open fireplace, children’s play room and bike rental. Unique extras such as delicacies from all over the world and packed lunches for your travels on request are also a bonus.

Being at the foot of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains offers endless fun for adventurous guests. There are 200km of ski slopes which can be accessed by train, most slopes taking no longer than 40 minutes by train or car from Interlaken, and the train journey up to Jungfraujoch is a must.

We are a Canadian family of four, living in Scotland for a year. Having stayed in many hostels all over Europe, we felt that this was one of the best. Our only disappointment was with Interlaken itself. We came expecting to find a lovely Swiss town and instead found ourselves in VERY touristy consumer driven city. With the help of the hostel staff, we found our way to Lauterbrunnen, Murren, Gimmelwald, and Stechelberg... where we hiked and enjoyed the natural beauty and smaller towns we sought.

We were treated with hostility by a chef at the cafeteria. We followed all rules, lined up at queues, put back trays and dishes after meal. We did not make any loud noise and were polite throughout. The chef who give us condescending look and used cooking utensils to make loud noises to display his hatred against us. He also rudely dropped dishes on the tray while serving. Youth Hostel is supposed to be a place to celebrate harmony and diversity not discrimination or hatred.

Attraction tip

The Jungfrau train is expensive and touristy, but also extremely beautiful on a blue sky day. Make sure to walk away from the crowds and enjoy lunch at the alpine hut across the glacier
