Great Day Trip Ideas from our Hostels, New York
While you’ll never be at a loss for something to see or do during any visit to our New York hostels, it would be a shame to miss some of the amazing attractions that can be found within a day trip from the Big Apple.
Sometimes the infinite energy of the city leaves guests craving the peace and quiet of their hostel. New York is a high-octane blast and we recommend that visitors savor the contrast with some of the more nature inspired locations that can be easily reached from the city center.
Day Trip to Free Port, Long IslandCaptain Lou is your man if you hanker after a fishing trip, according to the staff at our hostels. New York City is about an hour way from Freeport, Long Island where you can reserve a place on the captain’s boat and take advantage of his vast knowledge about what’s biting and how to bait them: from fluke, bluefish and flounder, you can have a North Atlantic feast!
Day Trip to Rockaway Beach, Queens
Our New York hostels are centrally located for an urban experience but it’s always nice to escape the city life and head for the beach. Rockaway in Queens has its own ferry service so you can reach it easily. Hang out with Brooklyn locals and see the Rockaway Beach Club where you can find a cuisine to suit your taste among the artisanal food vendors who have stalls along the boardwalk.
Day Trip to Cold Spring on Hudson, NY
When you are saturated by the super modern surroundings of your hostel, New York State is your haven. Head off to Cold Spring onHudson, north of the city to see the quaint town and its spectacular landscape.
For magnificent views of the Hudson you can start by hiking Mt Taurus or wander the Boscobel Gardens. Either way you’ll work up an appetite so we recommend that you treat yourself to the French dishes at Brasserie Le Bouchon for a farm-inspired hearty lunch.
