Beautiful hostel in the middle of the old Medina; although difficult to find during the last few steps of the written directions. Unsure who actually ran the hostel, I was greated and let in by a guest but it was a comforting, lovely old palace and very clean. Wonderful city to visit and get great deals.

within the medina, it is easy to find something to eat if you are not choosy. initially had a hard time to find the hostel. at night outside is very dark. souk is not safe i got my wallet stolen. generally the staffs are helpful with their limited english.

We found a clean hotel - grand hotel France - in the centre for the same price; en suite and imaculately clean. There was a hole in the wall of our room at the hostel which was blocked by a kind of mirror. However, it let in both the cold and the noise. Incredibly, I was badly bitten by mosquitos also. The bed sheets looked like they had been used and we were later told by an inmate that they had not been changed. An interesting experience!! Pity we couldn't recommend it as it is an atmospheric old house and is in the heart of the medina.

There was not always someone at front desk to recieve guests even during the day, and certainly a problem if you were out too late at night. Hostel seemed to lack a place where the hostellers could meet and greet. There was lots of space but it didn't seem to attract anyone to sit read a book, work on computer. There was a TV but it didn't seem to be used. However it was a great experience to be right in the Medina in a heritage building that has prserved its character. WiFi was not working when I was there, also if it was working you could only buy time by an hour which was inefficient, since you keep getting logged out. Much better if you can buy much longer time or by the days or week, so you can avoid the risk of getting logged out.

| Bus: | From the Bab Alioua station "Bus et grand Taxi" (bus and big taxi): 20 minutes by foot. Take Sidi El Bechir Street to the El Jazira Square, make a left, go on on the Bab Djedid Avenue, then straight on the Bab Mnara Boulevard, to the Government Square (Place du Gouvernement). Then, turn right, go down the Kasbah Street, take the 2d street on your left, SAIDA AJOULA Street, to #25. There you are. From the Moncef Bey Station "grand taxi" (big taxi): 30 minutes by foot. Take the 18 janvier Street to the H. BOURGUIBA Avenue, turn left and go to the Avenue de France, past the Victoire Square. Then, take the Djamaa Ezzitouna Street. Go to the Great Mosque Ezzitouna, on your right, then make a left and take El Attarine Street.
