What lacks in Stayokay places are facilities, if not for cooking, at least for eating food taken from outside. (The prohibition against that is ridiculous). Dutch youth-hostels are some of the most expensive in Europe, and this drives further down the relation quality / price.

When my party checked in, the man that welcomed us was very helpful, allowing us to split the bill and accounting for the fact that I had paid the deposit for the whole group. I don' know whether or not this was unusual, but the welcome desk didn't open until something like 8:20 AM on the morning I left, meaning that my group couldn't check out as soon as we would have liked. Breakfast is all-you-can-eat and very solid.

The hostel is situated 20km from Amsterdam and 3km from the vivid centre of Haarlem, offering a wealth of restaurants, cafes and galleries such as the Frans Hals Museum. Accommodation is in 4-8 beddedrooms with private sanitary facilities. Other facilities include common (non smoking) room, restaurant, bar with terrace on water-side, discount tickets for various museums/attractions in Haarlem/Amsterdam and bike hire.
