As budget traveller, I would have used the kitchen on my second night as well. But when we arrived back from the glacier and mountain tour (10 pm) the kitchen was already closed (without any preliminary notification), although we used it at this time the day before. So we had to drop the recently bought frozen meals into dustbin, and wait for the following morning's breakfast. Breakfast is served only from 8 am, which is not early enough if you want to catch the glacier tour in Jostedalsbreen.

Breakfast was better than expected, with a beautiful view from the dining room. Although it is located a little further from town center (10-15 minutes walking), buses stop in front of the hostel.

il faut restaurer l'hôtel, décor des chambres avec tags, douche partagée à refaire limite sale, vieillot. Réfectoire ok. vue et position correcte. Cet Hôtel nous a le plus déçu des hihostels par son aspect.

I had an electronic alarm clock that I had sat on the shelf below what appears to be new sinks in the rooms. I did not realize that there was a lead until I woke the next morning after using the sink before bed. I spoke to the manager and he paid for a new alarm clock that I went out in Sogndal and purchased. Very happy with my experience this year and last year as well. Also great breakfast included in the price.

The room rate I paid at this hotel is by far the best in the area. The people at the front desk were helpful and always available. It would be nice if there was wifi in the rooms and it was open all day, but I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Location very good. Breakfast is varied and unlimited. Room with private bathroom good, although very basic equipment. Single room with washbasin modest, even austere.

The mainbuilding was very nice so was the common room, but the building where I slept in was very old and poor.
Hostel Overview
Sogndal Hostel is located at the center of the small town Sogndal, in view of the Sognefjord, the longest and deepest fjord in Europe. From the hostel you can do daily trips to the UNESCO World Heritage sites of the Nærøyfjord and Urnes stave church. There are also possibilities for guided glacier hikes on the Nigardsglacier. Local attractions include the Sogn Folkmuseum, one of the largest outdoor museums in Norway, the Glaciermuseum in Fjærland and the Glaciersenter in Jostedalen.In Sogndal you can also buy guided trips with kayak on the fjord, or on one of the nearby glacial lakes. There are many hiking oppurtunities in and around Sogndal. But if you are interested in the more spectacular hikes, we would recommend a trip to Jotunheimen, a big mountain area northeast of Sogndal which has the highest mountains in Norway.
