Stayed for 3rd time over 4 years.
Self help kitchen & large dining area was very useful.
Free water & tea (hot, chilled) is much appreciated.
The clean hot onsen was very good - but ONLY ONE shower room for those who must use it shower room instead of Onsen
(I enjoyed the onsen every day for cleaning up); washing machine & dryer helped a lot.
5mins walk to Shin-Osaka station is very helpful as we had the 7-days Shinkansen pass to go other major cities.
However, it was the Japanese Golden week holiday so our 8-person to a dorm was packed! –
and japaneses who uses dorms seem to be early-sleepers - so we had to creep inside our dorm quieter than any church-mouse once after 11am.
The 11pm curfew was quite OK with us as by then our legs were buckling from the whole day out.
The various size deposit-lockers in the corridors were helpful.
great experience. i love it.
its is a wonderful place to meet different people n rest after a day trip!
Helpful staff, friendly roommates, great place to stay!
great option for budget travelers -hostel is one of a very few cheap accommodations that close to city center. Good option for Japan Rail Pass users, JR Lines to Osaka city center is included in pass so getting to/from and around city is basically free. Nice view over the city skyline.
overall, it's good and close to the JR station
Admittedly, the hostel was very clean and the location convenient. Still, there were simply to many rules for a youth hostel. I felt like being in a kindergarden rather than a hostel. Specific times when the use of showers is allowed and things like that. But most annoying definitely that the doors are closed from midnight until 6 am. So no chance to go out, one thing people staying in youth hostels often like to do, especially in a city like Osaka.
Also, the staff's lacking english skills made communication pretty hard.
The most thing I enjoyed in Shin-Osaka YH was I can play the guitar there. So amazing! I love the lobby there because it is so comfortable! My Japanese friend told me that the hostel is the cleanest hostel in Japan. I agree about that. Now I just staying in Tokyo Central YH, while I think Shin- Osaka YH is the best hostel I'd ever stayed in Japan! Very awesome hostel!!
Very nice!! if i visit Osaka again, I stay this hostel again
Close to Shin-Osaka station, comfortable room (we stayed in an 8-bed dorm), very clean. Seemed to be only a few showers for many people or maybe we just didn't find them all! Staff were friendly but not very helpful in giving info about Osaka. We arrived on NYE, asked what there was to do at midnight and weren't really told much at all. Turns out there is a big celebration at nearly every temple which would have been great to go to!
