Toilets are dated and breakfast is very, very simple. Tip: facilitate the possibility to make toast!

gelukkig wordt het hostel opgeknapt binnenkort, dat zal een goede zaak zijn. Verder was het ontbijt verzorgd, vriendelijk bij ontvangst en vertrek

bed wasn't very clean... the shower space is so small and the shower curtain couldn't cover the shower space and water kept splashing out. the whole floor in toliet ended up really wet and slippery... the light in room was way too dim.. otherwise the location is great...staff are quite friendly..

I was pleased and interested to learn of the new Oostende HI hostel due to open next year - have stayed at De Ploate twice now and have found it to be fine, if a bit worn and outdated, and look forward to visiting the new hostel.

Hostel Overview

Oostende is called "the queen of cities at the sea". It is the biggest city at the Belgian coast & has a lot to offer to visitors f.eks. museums, shops, restaurants. The hostel is located only 300m away from the beach. You can visit the "Mercator" - a former trainingvessel (sailing) from the Belgian navy or wander around looking at the yachts. Guided tours by the Marine Ecological centre can be booked through the hostel.
