Great hostel with helpful staff in a fantastic location. Needs some minor maintenance taken care of, but otherwise awesome.

have to know that last bus from Como to Menaggio is 20.00 after it is nearly impossible to get there!! So plan your trip from Milan, for example, in advance.

I loved this place. It really is the perfect location right on the lake. The staff was fantastic and very welcoming and helfpful. I really felt at home during my stay. I made friends there immediately and the whole situation was geared for that. The food and alcohol was excellent and very reasonable. I could sit for hours at the indoor and outdoor tables just staring at the lake and hanging out. The only negative, and it is a small one, is that there are no large lockers for backpacks in the rooms, so it basically means you have to just find room on or next to, or under your bed for your belongings. The atmosphere IS one of trust at the hostel, and I have not heard of any theft problems, but if you are nervous about stuff like that there is not much in the way of security. However, the place is locked at night so it wasn't really much of a worry for me. I would definitely return to this beautiful area and this great hostel.

BEAUTIFUL spot! Staff a really fun varied team, with plenty of suggestions of stuff to do and activities on offer. Very reasonably priced kitchen serving up yummy home cooked dinners every night. STAY HERE - sure to be a highlight of any trip :D

Hostel was noisy during evening and night. Music from the bar played loudly till midnight (one speaker was placed just below the window of our room). Group of guests was allowed to be noisy till 2 p.m. So we decided to finish our stay after one night and leave this hostel. We have not been contacted yet by the staff of the hostel as we have to get back payment for two nights from prepayed reservation (payment was done by credit card).

Enjoyed my stay in Mennaggio. I was pleasantly surprised how nice it was. I thought it was going to be a disappointment but there was as much to do as in Como. Excellent hiking nearby. The tourist office in town was a big help.

The last night we stayed there was crazy.. People were parting and screaming the whole night whithout any of the staff Said anything... It is not so nice to wake up having the door to your room open.. But exept this we had a good stay here!

Slight hiccup over double booking but alternative accommodation provided and no big problems. Overpowering smell in the room does however need to be attended to.
Hostel Overview
Menaggio´s Youth Hostel, La Primula, is located in a beautiful place on the banks of Lake Como and is the ideal place for those who want to have quiet holidays in an interesting and diverse place. Switzerland is nearby, but above all, here it is possible to practice outdoor activities, such as birdwatching and hiking.There are bike tours for everyone. You can everything here: from tours in the wonderful Villa Carlotta Gardens to cooking and language lessons. We can even prepare vegetarian meals and hire boats. Groups can have lessons in the natural school.
