Considering my guidebook suggested this was a relatively new YHA, it just all felt a bit tired and drab. The corridors were more inspiring than my room was. The warm welcome made up for it a bit - great staff!

The hostel is close to the main station, but about 20 min from the city centre. It is a bit noisy and also quite stuffy, so you have to have a noisy fan on all night. The staff are alright, but not as friendly as I had hoped for.

room was not clean at all. bathrooms were very good. bedrooms were extremely small. hostel locations is great.

The private room with a double bed was only slightly bigger than the bed. There was no cupboard, drawers or night table. Our room faced the street so was noisy from the train traffic.

We were satisfied with the private room with bathroom although it was quite small. Our room faced the back so was quiet unless people were talking on the deck. The refrigerator was jammed with food so it was a challenge to put much in there. The location was great. The restaurant on the ground floor was good value for the daily two for one special.

A great hostel, modern facilities and good location, however the girl on reception wasn't very pleasant when i checked in, the Swedish girl..The kitchens are very small for the amount of people in the hostel, i found that some evenings, i couldn't get into the kitchen at all...

As per all hostels internet is a rip off. $40.00 a week? Come on. get with the times here. Everywhere else in the world you go you can get free WIFI and even alot of the other hostels in Australia as well...YHA why are you lagging? There was a few things in the room that apparently have been there for a while as said by someone staying there a week already. there was a cup with mint and other herbs that was rotton in water...you can tell House Keeping is a rarity. Anyways the Rooftop is AMAZING esp during the sunset. Decent hostel but I think i prefer Metro

Melbourne Central YHA is an exciting new backpackers hostel in Melbourne's vibrant CBD. The hostel has an energetic backpacker's bar on the ground floor and some very special private rooms with ornate balconies overlooking Flinders Street.Hostel facilities include a tour desk for local tours, plus a high-speed YHAConnect Internet Cafe with Skype and WiFi throughout the hostel, flat-screen TVs and electronic door locks.
There's free hostel activities for all guests, including walking tours of Melbourne, pub excursions and BBQs. Ask reception for more details when you check in.
The hostel has an eclectic bar (Bertha Brown) on the ground floor which serves tasty affordable meals, with 2-4-1 specials for YHA guests, plus coffees, cocktails and a range of local and international beers.
Melbourne Central YHA has a range of rooms to choose from including 3, 4 and 6 multishare, twin/doubles with the option for ensuites.
The hostel is ideally located close to public transport making it easy to get around the city. The hostel is just 900m from Southern Cross Station - Melbourne's main arrival point for regional and interstate buses, trains and airport shuttle buses.
There is a free city circle tram that operates in the CBD with a stop directly in front of the hostel - now that's convenience! A free Melbourne City Tourist Shuttle bus also operates in the CBD and the closest stop is just 5 minutes walk.
