Unusual to find a hostel with a double bed. Even more unusual to find the bed is a shelf surrounded by 3 walls! This made getting in and out of bed 'challenging'. The room was very narrow, making the shower/loo very cramped. It is a ski hostel in winter, so I imagine the relatively vast space under the bed could be used for storing skis.

Welcome to Le Mont-Dore - Ski on a volcano!A charming chalet at the heart of the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Park, welcomes you to its rooms with 2 to 6 comfortable beds, very recently renovated, some with double beds for couples. Each room is equipped with its own lavatory. You will love the friendly atmosphere of the large dining room and bar, the easy equipment rental at the hostel and the night-time snowshoe outings. You can go out in the morning with your skis on, ready to hit the nearby slopes always snowy thanks to snow guns.
Ski area If you enjoy downhill skiing, take advantage of the 42 km of slopes and 82 snow guns at the Mont Dore ski area, whose chair lifts are just outside the doors of the hostel at the end of a footbridge. The top of the resort is connected to the Super Besse ski area (same pass), doubling the size of the ski area and giving the fearless access to the snowpark and the possibility of trying speed riding. Try out the Espace Nordique Sancy with its varied, exceptional landscapes that will melt the heart of all Nordic ski fans! The alternating forests, plateaus and volcanoes provide a unique panorama.
The resort You are in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Volcanoes of Auvergne and at the foot of the Puy du Sancy, the highest summit in the Massif Central. This is a family resort, where you can try snowshoe outings, dogsled rides or sledge rides in the vast fun area including the snow garden. After playing in the snow, time to relax! Enjoy the fitness centre and other fun activities at the resort (bowling, skating, casino, etc.), not to mention Sancy Snow Jazz (a classical and New Orleans jazz festival held in the last week in February).
Slopes 1,300 m / 1,800 m Downhill skiing - Hostel at the foot of the slopes Mont Dore and Super Besse ski areas, 31 slopes (85 km) including 2 black, 6 red, 7 blue and 16 green. Cross-country skiing 39 km of cross-country ski trails connected to the 284 km of the Sancy Nordic area.
Breathe, you’re in the heart of the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Park. At the foot of the Sancy, the Massif Central’s highest peak, and surrounded by trees, this lodge hostel is set in a quiet place, out of the road. The Mont-Dore Youth Hostel is a winter ideal place to do downhill skiing (YH located right at the beginning of the slopes). During the rest of the year, you can discover France’s most recent volcanoes! All nature activities available near the hostel.
