With only one person at the desk it is time consuming to wait to ask a quick question. Really enjoyed the stay, but would reccomend having another receptionist :)

comfortable and clean. helpful staff. nice kitchen areas. shame there was no oven - bought a pizza one evening at supermarket, then realised I couldn't cook it! A fairly long walk into centre - nice in sunny weather, less pleasant in drizzle. Next to outdoor swimming pool which was very enjoyable. why do you not offer male only dorms? seems rather sexist - female only exist. lounge area pleasant, but occupied by school group in evening.

Reykjavik City Hotel is a pretty well located. Just next door to a public swimming(heated) pool, which I used everyday!!! The breakfast at the hostel also was pretty good!!! If you don't want to travel to the town center(by bus), then walk 25 minutes and appreciate the landscape, housing, etc,

Great hostel with two self catering kitchens. Very airy feeling. A bit inconvenient without a car. Bus 14 into town about every half hour. 700kr return. It's about a half hour walk.

I did not stay at City Hostel, but at Downtown. There was a mix up in the booking. I very much enjoyed to stay at Downtown. The staff was very helpful. Thank you.

Lovely hostel! Key locks on doors, extremely clean and was upgraded to a private room! Only down side is that is further out from Reykjavik centre than I thought, but my own fault on not checking the map before booking. All in all, wonderful.

Modern building and very clean. Bring own sheet with sleeping bag as you will need it for plastic covered mattresses. Pillows uncomfortable so bring your own. We had large four bunk room for our family-beds comfortable with own light. Plenty of room for four suitcases and in bathroom too.Kitchen clean and well equipped apart from only one teaspoon!Lots of plates mugs and cutlery though and fridge clean and well managed. Only negative thing is that we returned to room about 8pm and it had been left open. We were careful about ensuring room was locked securely as doors are heavy and do not always catch. Our daughter also got locked in room as door too heavy to open for her. We think the cleaner may have left our door open? Nothing missing but next time I would bring a padlock and use lockers in rooms for valuables. Would stay again as tremendous value but would not buy their breakfast. Shop at downtown Bonus or Kronan and eat your own cheaper breakfast.

    Hostel response:
Hi Maria Thank you so much for your detailed feedback! And sorry for the unlocked door left open by the house keeping staff. Not very professional. We hope to welcome you again one day ... Joachim, on behalf of City Hostel reception.

It isn't a good policy to have bathrooms in the dorms but not clean then until everyone of the room moved out. The bathroom hasn't been cleaned for at least two weeks when I left. Even after I talked to the receptionists twice and asked for cleaning, nothing happend. Also the hostel is quite far away from the city center and not in real walking distance unfortunately. It took about 40 mins to get to the main shopping street.

    Hostel response:
Dear Judith. You and Johanna shared the same room that got left out by our cleaning staff. As we told Johanna: This should not have happened at all and we are very very sorry for this! No excuses, but we will work harder on improving training in housekeeping and following up on guest comments. Thank you for your comments and your stay. I'm sure we'll do a better job next time you come visit us! Kind regards, Joachim, on behalf of City Hostel reception.
