Hostel Overview
The house is a pleasant old farmhouse which has been rebuilt into a Hostel. The area around Húsey is very spectacular and a "paradise" for nature lovers. It is a breeding ground for more than 30 different kinds of birds. Here you will also find ca. 175 species of plants, wheares the country´s average for such areas is ca 90. Several hundred seals swim up the glacial river Jökulsá and you can get very close to them. At Húsey guests can experience the nature more intensively than in most other places. The Hostel offers what they call "Vacation with the Icelandic Horse." Each guest has his/her own horse for two or three days up to one week and they have the opportunity to go on long and short riding tours whenever they like. The guests also have the opportunity to join the life and work on the farm, including checking the farmer´s trout nets. In this week beginners have an excellent chance to get acquainted with the Icelandic horse. There are daily trips for guests of the hostel to go and see seals. The trips takes 1 1/2 - 2 hours and departures are twice a day: 10:00 and 17:00. We use horses to get to and from our destination. Next Hostels: Borgarfjörður Eystri, 84 km - Seyðisfjörður, 83 km.Reindeers, seals and a 2 hour horse riding experience or a week with your very own horse; Húsey hostel offers a completely unique experience in east Iceland. Húsey is off the beaten tourist track, which is why you can enjoy almost complete peace and quiet and absorb the land and nature – relax in the cosy farm house and enjoy the pectacular view, try a fresh walk along the footpaths or a horseback to experience the landscape with its changing moods. At Húsey you will find that you are in close contact with nature.

| Bus: | Guests who are not driving their own car can, on request, be picked up at Egilsstaðir or at the byway to Húsey for a reasonable fee. |

| Location: | Húsey is located away from busy roads and towns ca. 55 km from Egilsstaðir and 30 km from the main road. To visit Húsey you take road no. 925 from road no. 1 (turning near the bridge over Jökulsá á Dal), then take road 926; The gravel part of the road is not in a great condition so take it slowly, it is a beautiful drive and the destination is well worth the drive. The road is passable by all types of cars all year round. |
