The hostel is located in Suomenlinna island and have to take a ferry to get there. However, the ferry takes only about 15 minutes and comes by quite often so really nothing to complain about. Suomenlinna is really beautiful and if the weather permits it, sit down on one of the rocks by the seaside and chat with your friend! We have stayed in both private and dorm rooms and it was all very good. Private rooms were cozy (not meaning small, but really cozy). You could borrow locks for free (they return you 4 euros if you give them back). However, the staff doesn't stay at the reception since they don't live there. You need a code, which they send you through email, to get in! We haven't tried out the breakfast they offer, since it needs to be reserved beforehand, but there is a store nearby and you could get a decent pastries and milk or yogurt quite cheap.
Nothing is to greator to little for the staff to help you with. However, make sure you book breakfast 24hrs before you need it, although there a grocery store just round the corner; there is also an area upstairs to cook and eat in. Remember if you're in a mixed dorm, guys often snore! The toilets are a little cramped, but the showers are hot and powerful. Very very clean and no probs with security! Location is awesome - watch the sun set or rise. Value for money is well worth it.
This is the cleanest hostel I've ever stayed in and one of the most beautifully designed. They have paid attention to every detail with this place, everything looked good quality. I met 3 staff during my stay and they were all extremely helpful and spoke English fluently. The price of this hostel was high, but I thought this was fair and in line with the general costs of everything in Helsinki. It was an excellent experience for us.
Just great!!
We enjoyed our stay very much. The location is so special and beautiful. It was lovely to relax on the island after visiting the city during the day and the ferry is busy all day even in winter time.Outside it was snow and - 10 C , but the room was warm and good.
Check the kitchen ware, pots and pans. An update is needed.
My plane was delayed coming in as I ran for the last ferry at 02.20 in the snow I could see the ferry leaving to the Island of Suomenlinna. So I had to sleep on a wooden bench overnight. The hostel use to be an old school in winter it,s warm though your rattling around a bit in winter. In summer it will probabley be a different atmosphere. Most ofthe staff are very friendly and helpful. When you first arrive to the island it,s a lot like something from Lord of the Rings with the lighthouse shining it,s beacon. I love the island and there are plenty of ferry crossings especially in summer. It,s just unfortunate I missed the last one. There is also free internet access and wifi. and a kitchen in the roof. and they supply free cofffe, tea,and herbal teas with hot water in flasks.or you could use the kettle in the upstairs kitchen.
Exceptional. Great location, very clean, nicely quiet (maybe due to winter), generous and tasty breakfast, wifi, friendly chilled staff, clean hot shower after paddling around Suomenlinna... best hostel ever.
A separate building on an island with a UNESCO-protected fortress. Spacious rooms, kitchenette with little fridges. Calm and quiet - exactly what you need when you come back from partying in the city centre. One inconvenience (and attraction at the same time) is 15-minute journeys by ferry between the island and the city (in wintertime ferries depart once or twice an hour, the last from the city centre at 2.20am, the first from the island at 6am, more frequent in summer, city transportation tickets are valid also for the ferries).
The photos for this hostel don't even do it justice. This is probably one of the prettiest places I've ever seen or stayed at. The hostel itself was cute, perfectly clean, and very peaceful. The island of Suomenlinna was absolutely breathtaking. Getting to and from the island is a breeze. I'd definitely stay here again!
Very big dorm rooms. Showers and Kitchen are OK but can be upgraded.
Located on an island with easy ferry transportation. You can buy the Day Card for the ferry which is valid for 24h.
