It's a unique hostel. I slept in the train. It's interesting. Also, the lake view is nice, we saw beaver, eagle, fish and other animals. The breakfast is good and delicious with 5 dollars. Only the problem is that we have to pay 3 dollars for WIFI fee. Over all, I had a great time there. I would like to recommend it to you.

We enjoyed our stay at teh hostel. Beautiful setting,friendly staff, comfortable beds. Exagerated activities,outdoor eating too close to stable,signage very poor. Very difficult to get in off hwhy! Store poorly stocked and not clean.

Great little hostel. The caboose that I stayed in needed a little bit of work, but it was comfortable enough. I really enjoyed my time there and wish that I had been able to stay longer.

Hostel Overview

Located in the historic Squilax General Store, the HI-Shuswap Lake Hostel sits on the shores of Shuswap Lake, one of BC's most popular summer vacation destinations for swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, whitewater rafting and hiking. Situated halfway between Banff and Vancouver, the hostel is in an ideal location for a stopover. We are in a wilderness setting but have hot running water, as well as a campfire pit and a native style sauna. The hostel dorm rooms are in three converted Canadian National Cabooses (rail cars). The private rooms are in the main building.

As we are located directly on the lake, there is a wharf and free use of our canoe, as well as free use of a hiking self guided kit (daypack, binoculars, plant, bird and mammal guide books). A short walk or canoe ride through the forest will take you to a beaver's lodge (yes, the real animal!). Local events include rodeos, music festivals, Pow Wows (native drumming and dance competitions), and the Adam's River Salmon Spawning run. Organic grocery store on site. Tenting also available. Bus:	Contact hostel for Greyhound bus information. Greyhound has made changes in the bus stops.
Parking:	Plenty of parking available on site. Please use store parking to check in. Once you are registered, hostel staff will let you know where to park.
Location:	Right on Highway #1, halfway between Vancouver and Banff. We are 65km east of Kamloops; 10km east of Chase; 45km west of Salmon Arm or 8km west of Sorrento. See photo of store. The hostel office is in Squilax store.
