Nice city and nice hostel, but the WiFi did annoy me a little bit since it disconnected from time to time.

The location of the hostel was ideal as everything was very close and transit is helpful too. It was my first ever visit to the Gaslamp District and it's bustling a lot at night! Worth the stay and hope to come again in the future to see more nice things around SD! The staff was very helpful and courteous

Excellent location, friendly welcome, enjoy the breakfast. TV room could be more inviting, was always empty and large screen not great. (See San Francisco Theatre Room!All black bean bags and leather chairs and nightly choice of movies). Generally hostel in need of a coat of paint, but good value for money and would recommend.

Perhaps that means people are enjoying our activities, and the weather here, so much that they forgot all about TV :). We do have a great selection of movies for loan at reception, and also, we are in the process of throwing up that new coat of paint. Thanks again for the business and the comments. The girl who made the check in was very rude, but other people of the staff were more friendly. The kichen is a bit smelly and dirty, the furniture is basic but the price is so cheap that you don't feel like complaining. We stayed also at the HI in San Francisco (Union Square) and that was great, no comparison with this one in San Diego, sorry.

The customer service situation you experienced is definitely not a common one at our hostel, and we will be contacting you personally to gather more details. Our kitchen is old and smelly, and is getting completely remodeled starting the end of this month, as are many other areas of our facility. For rooms wit attached bath rooms, at least a telephone should be provided. And breakfast menu should be improved.

Thank you for the comments. We will be upgrading our en suite rooms this summer with A/C, alarm clocks, safes, etc. Phones may be in the cards as well if we get enough demand for them. Currently, our breakfast is a continental breakfast with cereal, milk, toast, and fruit. Our kitchen will be getting remodeled very soon, and upon that we may expand our breakfast items. From my experience with other hostels, I would suggest offering activities such as pub crawls and walking tours of the city in order to enable travellers to come together. (to be fair, I was there for St Patrick's day and the weather wasn't good so it might not've been easy to set up...)

San Diego Downtown hostel is the most central and accessible hostel in San Diego. It's one of two hostels in San Diego, and a member of the HI network within the US. On top of that we are within walking distance of the San Diego Convention Center, the Amtrak station, and the Greyhound station, plus a short bus or cab ride to the Airport (Approximately 10-15 minutes). IMPORTANT – Check-In/Reservation Policies:
-At check-in a 10.5% mandatory city tax will be added to the quoted rates.
-A $3 Non-Member Fee will be added per night for guests who are not Hostelling International members. Memberships are available at front desk upon check in.
-Foreign travellers must show a valid foreign passport at check-in.
-United States citizens must show a valid state issued Identification Card or Driver's License with photo upon check in.
-We do not rent to residents of San Diego County.
-U.S. passports, Foreign Identification and Driver's Licenses, Military Identification and Student Identification cards are not accepted.
-Reservations must be cancelled by Midnight the day before check-in to receive a refund. Any cancellations or no-shows after this point will be charged for the first night of the intended stay.
-Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. No one under the age of 12 may stay in a dorm room.
-We have a maximum allotted stay of 14 nights in a 365 day period. Any bookings made for longer than this cannot be accepted.
