The muzak played during the day and into the evening was terrible. It drove me either outside, down to the basement, or back to my room. I like the hostel facility, but the muzak--and management walking around talking business with potential group customers--was annoying as hell. As much as I like the hostel, I don't like the idea of staying there again.

Other hostels I've stayed at have offered some sort of soap in the showers - that'd be super nice here.

Not a good athmosphere. Only the furniture..... Didn't enjoy Sacramento as a city, neither I enjoyed the hostel.....
Hostel Overview
HI Sacramento hostel is an elegant 1885 Victorian mansion in the heart of downtown Sacramento, within walking distance of the Old Sacramento historic district, the Sacramento River, museum and the State Capitol. Need to go further? Why not raft down the American River, take a day trip to Gold Rush towns and Lake Tahoe or cycle the oak-lined American River bikeway.Accommodations are in shared, gender-specific or mixed dorm rooms, or in private rooms. Most rooms have shared bathrooms, but one private room with private bath is available. Guest may choose to stay in:
* Shared dorm rooms (8 to 10 beds per room)
* Private single/double room
* Private family room

The hostel has a spacious self-service kitchen where guests can prepare their own meals. The kitchen is fully equipped with stove, oven, microwave, coffeemaker, and ample refrigerator/freezer space. Pots and pans, dishes, and utensils are also provided.
For dining, guests may opt for the light-filled dining room (complete with chandelier!), or the outdoor patio with fountain, umbrella tables, and barbecue.

| Bus: | The Greyhound station is located at L Street and 7th Street. Walk 3 blocks east to 10th Street, then walk 4 blocks north to H Street. The hostel is on your left-hand side, at H and 10th. |
| Parking: | Limited parking is available on-site for $5 per night. Call ahead for parking instructions. If you don’t reserve a parking spot, there are 2-hour parking meters on the street near the hostel, in addition to a 5-minute loading zone in front. |
| Location: | The hostel is in downtown Sacramento, 4 blocks from the State Capitol and 5 blocks from the Amtrak Station. From San Francisco, Reno, or Tahoe by car, it's easily accessible via Highway I-80 to Highway I-5. |
| Rail: | Get off Amtrak at the Sacramento station (SAC), located at I Street and 5th Street. Walk 5 blocks east on I street, then turn left on 10th Street and walk 1 block. The hostel is on your left-hand side, at H and 10th. |
| Airport: | BUS: Take a Yolo bus to 8th and J streets (from US$2.00). SHUTTLE: Take a shuttle van to the hostel (from US$15). CAR: By car, take Interstate 5 South to the J Street exit, and follow J Street to 10th Street. Turn left on 10th Street. The hostel is 2 blocks north, at 10th and H streets. Please call ahead to the hostel for parking instructions. |
