Front desk was not very knowledgeable with public transportation or meal recommendations in the area. Excellent tour guide to Venice Beach and LA (Jean Michel).

Had to share a room with 7 girls. Had to go out of the room for shower or restroom. Plus on the same floor there are boys. So inconvenient. But breakfast is good. Price is too high for a place like this. $25-$40 is more reasonable. The 2nd floor and rooms smell terrible. A good place for young students if you want to make friends. I wish i were 20 years younger.

Friendly staff who were happy to answer questions regarding local sights and getting around LA. Great location-only a few minutes walk to the beach (Santa Monica and the Pier). A relaxing area of LA to stay in. Hostel good value for money considering other accomodation options in Santa Monica!

Your security needs to work more efficiency; several times during my stay they stopped working, the staff would tell me to "not keep near credit cards", despite the fact that the card was not kept near cards. I have stayed at other HI hostels with NO problem with the security cards - even when they were kept near credit cards in my wallet. Your staff were not as friendly as they are at other HI hostels. On my arrival, the lady over charged me, and it was only when I questioned her based on what I was quoted on the website that she bothered to change it. Her attitude was appalling, nor did she apologize for the oversight.

Location is great if you want to go to Santa Monica or Venice. Taking a Metro bus to LA is a pain in the rear end!

racially profiled by fellow african american employee due to his need to assert dominance during a disagreement over a visitor . I asked the visitor to leave and they apparent;y didnt ;resulting in said gentleman calling the police (within 45 minutes) and having me escorted off the premises @ 4AM. I will be disputing these charges with my credit card company as services were not rendered as promised

Great location if you don't have a car as bus stops nearby for all directions. Lots of great little eateries around. However coffee at the hostel will not give you a flying kick start for a big day of adventure.
