2/3's of staff I encounteredd were great. The 3rd person could have cared less, about most things. He came in on a Saturday morning 2 hrs latewith apology for inconvenience. Facility needs a good cleaning, specifically sticky counter at reception.

The mattresses are very poor and likely old so uncomfortable to sleep on. Staff at check in was not present and had to wait about 30 minutes until they came by the sign at the check in said staff on premises at all times - not so in this case but very friendly and helpful upon return. YOung womas staff on Sunday morning no so friendly and very busy with her cell phone. Though I like the location very much this will be the last time I stay at AYH in San Pedreo

The staff was really nice, welcoming and helpful. The beds were really hard (thin mattress) and were squeegeeing every time one moved. The bathrooms need some serious updating!!! The atmosphere was really good and the people (staff and guests) were really nice. Still the building itself needs to be improved!

Staff had a good time - but only for themselves. Cat in hostel had their kittens underneath the couch in the tv room and was sitting all over the tables where foods is being prepared.

The atmosphere and setting of the hostel was really refreshing. It felt like a real escape from the world. All the staff were wonderful, friendly, helpful, kind, and caring, with ONE exception, a guy named Cory. We approached Cory one morning and told him that there had been absolutely no toilet paper in the women's restroom the entire night, causing a crisis, and he said "I'll take care of it right away." We returned 17 hours later and found ourselves spending another night without toilet paper. Furthermore, he made us feel like our wish to pay our bill that morning was a terrible inconvenience to him. The downside to the location is that while it was a beautiful hostel setting, unfortunately it was so far from everything, including all freeways, adding a lot of commuting time every day.

The second morning there was nobody there for breakfast. The showers were very dirty.

A million-dollar view is waiting for you at this seaside hostel in the Los Angeles South Bay community of San Pedro. Located in scenic Angel's Gate Park, Hostelling International - Los Angeles South Bay has panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island and features spectacular sunsets. This hostel is a great place for you to relax far from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles. After the summer season the hostel is only open October through May for groups of 20 people or more.All Taxes and Charges(except the non-member fee of $ 3 usd) are included in current booking prices. | Bus: | From Union Station Take metro 450 South to Pacific and 19th St. San Pedro. You can take a cab to the hostel or Take 246 bus south to 38th and Pacific. Walk north on 38th to Gaffey, make a right and head up the hill to the driveway on the left side before 36th St. From other locations in Los Angeles go to www.metro.net for additional timetables. From LAX: Take the lot C shuttle to the bus center. Take bus #232 west to Anaheim & Avalon. Take bus #246 West (San Pedro,PT Fermin) to 38th and Pacific. Walk north on 38th to Gaffey St. Turn right on Gaffey and the hostel will be on your left side down the drive way. * Please note the #246 bus stops at 19th and Pacific after 7pm. |
| Metro: | The Metro is located at the Long Beach Transit Mall. It is approximately 9 miles from the Hostel. You cannot take the Metro to the hostel you must take the bus from the transit mall. |
| Parking: | Free parking is available in front of the hostel. |
| Sea port: | The Port of Los Angeles, World Cruise Center and Catalina Terminal are all located in San Pedro (approx. 3 miles from the hostel.) From any of those locations head North on Harbor Blvd. Make a right on 1st Street. Follow 1st Street until Gaffey Street. Make a left on Gaffey and follow until 37th Street (Angel's Gate Park) |
| Location: | Take the 110 (Harbor) Freeway south to San Pedro. The 110 freeway ends in San Pedro on Gaffey Street. Stay left onto South Gaffey Street and drive three miles down Gaffey to Angel's Gate Park. Turn right into the driveway at 36th St. The hostel buildings are on the left side of the road, enter through the courtyard. |
