When I arrived at this hostel on a Sunday night I asked if I was able to pay for my stay on departure. I did not think this was an unreasonable request as I had already paid a deposit on-line using my credit card and offered to leave my passport as a deposit. I only had enough Canadian dollars to cover the bed but as it was Sunday night and the banks were closed I would not be able to change up any other money to buy food to eat. I was told that there could be no flexibility and if I didn't pay there and then I could not stay. It was suggested I take a 20 minute train ride to a place that changes up money 24hours which I thought was a little harsh having sat on a plane and bus all day. Obviously the hostel has rules and procedures but the staff should probably use their discretion in some circumstances and a be a little more friendly and helpful with it.

Thank you very much for your comment. In the past we have run into issues where guests would leave the hostel with a balance due or leave behind the items they left as a deposit (even passports), never to return.

As a result, staff have been instructed to take payment on arrival. We do take several forms of payment (credit cards & debit cards) to try to alleviate the stress of not having enough cash on you.

I do apologize for the situation and will look into alternative solutions, as you suggested.

booked on line, but when we got there was a deal. got the deal but couldnt get a refund from the online booking. a lil annoyed. other than that it was good.
