Overall, a good stay. The backyard and view on the river looks pretty amazing! Had two different staff people during our stay. The guy was great, very helpful and friendly, the girl had a bad attitude and was definitely rude. Barged in our dorm at 10 am to get everyone out for cleaning and looked annoyed whenever you asked a question. Therefore the average grade. Location is not too too far from downtown, but expect to walk a good 10-15 mins to the bus stop, unless you are one of the lucky few to have a car.

The location was absolutely a downside, far from the city and if you catch a bus back at night time it can be quite sketchy (it is a 7 minutes very isolated walk down the road)

Showers in the men's bathroom need improving. I am thinking of the plumbing here. some better way of controlling the hot and cold water temperature would be a start. Perhaps I need to become better acquainted with American plumbing.

It's definitely true that our bathrooms need improvement! The good thing is that we're rehauling them this Summer, so hopefully the next time you see us they'll be brand spanking new. Thanks for your comment -HI-Austin -

It was nearly impossible to get to sleep at night. My room had 12 people in it. There were a lot of inconsiderate guests staying in my room who would come in and turn the light on in the middle of the night. I have stayed at one hostel before this one and it was considerably nicer and more comfortable. The "breakfast" here is a joke. It's pancake mix and a griddle. Make it yourself. Yum! I would never recommend this hostel to anyone.

I always love staying in hostels. I met some very cool people (as usual), stayed three nights for less than half of what one night would have cost in a downtown hotel, rode the city bus downtown (easy) and in general had a wonderful time!!!

HI-AUSTIN IS OBLIGATED TO CHARGE A 15% LODGING TAX ON ALL OVERNIGHT STAYS IN ACCORDANCE WITH TEXAS STATE LAW.
Please note that your quoted amount due upon arrival may be less than the actual amount due to taxes and daily membership fees. If you are a Hostelling International member you do not have to pay the $3 daily membership fee. For non-members, there is a $3 daily membership fee.
Base dorm room rates start at $22 + $3 daily membership fee + 15% lodging tax = $28.30 for non HI members. If you are a HI-Member base rates start at $25.30.
You can purchase a 1 year Hostelling International Membership at our hostel for $28 or $19 for seniors.
As part of our high quality standards, a government-issued photo ID (such as a passport or drivers license) must be presented upon check-in.
Regrettably, HI Austin cannot accommodate guests for more than 14 days per 365 day period. We also cannot accommodate guests who live within a 60 mile range of Austin.
Groups of 6 or more - please contact the hostel directly for information about rates & reservation deposits.
Please be advised that there is a $5 extra daily charge during special events such as South by Southwest and Austin City Limits. Bookings made for these events will also require a deposit of one full night. During these times, all cancellations require a 72 hour notice to receive a full refund.

Take bus #10 southbound to Red River & 18th St. Transfer to bus #20 southbound to Burton & Riverside Dr. Walk down the hill along Tinnin Ford Road. The road will end at South Lakeshore Boulevard and we are across the street to the right. Taxis are available at the station as well - fare should be around $20. |

| Airport: | By car: 15 Minute drive. Take Highway 71 west towards Austin. Merge onto Interstate 35 North and exit @ Riverside Drive (Exit # 233). Head east on Riverside Drive and turn left at the 7/11 onto South Lakeshore Boulevard. We are located about 400 meters down the street on the left. By bus: Take bus #100 (Airport Flyer to Burton and East Riverside Drive. Walk down the hill along Tinnin Ford Road. The road will end at South Lakeshore Boulevard and we are across the street to the right. Taxis are available at the airport as well - fare should be about $20. |
