This was the one hostel we stayed at while in Iceland, and the most overpriced night of our trip. The facilities are fine, but not worth the cost relative to other places one could stay. Breakfast was at local guest house run by same operator, and very basic. Not somewhere we would chose to stay again (and we did not stay in other hostels based on this experience).

Nice, quiet house. You have to call the front desk because no one actually stays in the hostel as far as staff (it seemed) but it was a nice rest in the small town of Hofn.

It was a little expensive. Other HI hostels of comparable quality (even the one in Reykjavik) were 30% or so cheaper

With the standard of quality that we are used to staying with in HI hostels (we have been staying with them for the last 11 1/2 years) this was very disappointing. For what is had it offer is was extremely over priced. If it was half the price that we paid for it would have been bearable, but with chipped dishes, worn-out beds, wobbly tables and a general unfriendliness, this was the worse stay that we had in Iceland over the last month. The only way to make this hostel bearable is either to drastically cut the prices or have vast improvements to the amenities that this hostel offers. If things don't change in this hostel we will never stay there again and may reconsider our loyalty to HI.

I was suprised by how much it cost. We stayed in a double room with shared WC that cost ISK 12,000 for a night. We stayed the next day in a guesthouse for the same facilities and same level of rating and only paid ISD 8850. The difference was only the breakfast in this HI hostel. I used to stay in HI hostel all the time thanks to the budget friendly costs. I am really shock by how uncompetitive the pricing has become. I will certainly not stay in HIs again.

It took approximately 10 minutes for the guy to show up at the door after we rang. With no answer - we were about to leave. Apparently the hostel was full (we had a booking) so the owner took us to his other guest house which was further out of the town. Staff took the money and left. Never saw anyone else. Even asked if he could give us our money back for the breakfast so he wouldn't have to make anything in the morning. (Breakfast was suppose to be included.)

We haven't stayed in the hostel it self... the owner told us the were under construction and we would get a room in another guesthouse. This was located out of the centre. The room was big, but no beds were made and I had to ask for pillows. Later we were told by another guest there had been an outburst of illness among the long staying guest (have work in Höfn) and the whole place had to be stripped!
