Excellent stay again. We have been here before and know what works really well and what doesn't work quite so well. So we came prepared and had a great time. The bedrooms are superb. No critiscm implied here, but the kitchen is a little bit small if the hostel is full - everybody gets by, but a little less easy than some other places...
Arrived about 9pm and accommodation not ready. Clearly overbooked as were put in a cottage that was obviously not originally intended for us. Told it was being cleaned but nearly finished. Invited to go and wait in the living room. Cottage nowhere near clean - cleaner had really only just begun. Waited in livingroom which was dirty (rubbish left lying around (incl half eaten food), dirty floor etc). Maid left 1hr later having only cleaned the bedrooms and bathroom. The kitchen was filthy (half eaten food on worktops), dirty oven, overflowing bin, two mop buckets left with dirty water, collection of dirty cutlery/crockery in the cupboards - nice! No working heating (eventually provided with portable heaters). On arrival paid the balance due (£52.50). Chap came back with a handful of loose change and quipped that there was about 50p there and that we could share it between us. Naturally assumed he would come back with the full change, but he didnt!
Hostel response:
We were extremely disappointed to read this review as we always try to offer our customers high value for their money. The background to this is that we had a double booking (a very rare occasion) and this group arrived late at 9pm. We immediately organised alternative accommodation for them in a nearby cottage and our cleaner as stated stayed over an hour preparing this cottage for them. Their sleeping area and bathrooms had been cleaned and prepared. We had assumed that they would use the kitchen/dining facilities in the hostel and as such those had not been cleaned in the cottage. The complaint regarding being short changed, is totally wrong as the balance due to be paid was £54.52 and they received 50p as they have acknowledged. However it is our view that they still received extremely good value for their payment and the facilities they used were of a very high standard.
A bit cold in the dining area, but there were not many resident so I understand not leaving the heating on.
Nice place. Lounge dining area a bit chilly. Tea towels could do with a wash.
Had a very enjoyable visit
Unfortunatley I had to cancel my trip 4 days before I managed to go, but hopefully will manage to arrange another trip before the year is out
It was freezing, the heating was only turned on both nights (6 degrees Celsius outside), after we complained to the owner, but we still had to sleep in socks and jumpers because the room hardly got warm at all. There was no heating at all in the kitchen/dining rooms. The furnishings and facilities are high quality and would be great in warmer weather, but no fun in the cold
Where is the STAFF in this hotel ??
Impossible to pay whith Visa card (only cash)
A lot of things are "out of order" or missing
Some clear directions of how to find the hostel would be very helpful on the booking form - we spent some time going around Drumnadrochit trying to find you. A small map would be great!
Great location and friendly staff.
