Overall satisfied. Clean and secured. Helpful staff for the weather information. There is pros & cons in location. It is closed to nature but far from city center. Free bus is great, but it is hard for first timer to find a bus stop at Chamonix city.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. Yet, the hostel is located a few km out of the town centre, there is only one bus for connection, and the last bus depart at about 8pm. There is no restaurant or shops or supermarket near to the hostel. Meaning you will have problem to eat out in the town centre at night and catch the last bus because most restaurants open at 7pm. I missed the last bus and had walked for literally one hour from the town centre to the hostel. Not exactly a pleasant and safe walk during a cold night. The only other choice is to take a taxi. Other than that, the hostel itself is fine, well equipped and cozy atmosphere. And be aware of the opening time of the reception, there will not even be one person to ask for help if you arrive out of the opening hours, calling the phone no. will not help as well, it just transfer your call to a voice recording.

This was our second trip to Chamonix and the hostel at Pelerins En Haut. Although it is a little out of town it is very convenient for the bus which takes you there and then on to the various slopes

I work in the hotel industry and usually hate leaving negative comments but I have to say that this is the worst run establishment i've stayed in. Its a hostel, granted but the staff were so unhelpful and discourteous it was almost comical. You can only check in to your room at 18.00, the front desk lady misdirected us to the nearest bus station (as in opposite direction), despite our friend being injured front desk lady just shrugged when asked for ice.. the list goes on. There's a certain type of person who should be in hospitality the the hostel manager is a caricature of what shocking service looks like. Shame as otherwise not a bad place.

    Hostel response:
Hello Jeremy, Daniel, James and Marco! This reply goes to James Harvey and Marco Saio in particular because you are the ones who came earlier that day, on the 16th of March. As for everybody, check-in starts at 5 pm (not 6 pm). We told you that, it is also marked on the door and on the website too. So you left your luggage at the reception desk until you came back that evening (all 4 of you). When you left your luggage behind the reception desk, we asked you to change in the restroom at the entrance of the hostel, you did it right there, behind us... One of you 2, Marco or James, you have injured yourself, sorry for that. We told you that you can find ice in the kitchen. The rest of the information we gave you (buses, etc.) is regular information (and very important for most people). You wanted a taxi, we gave you the information, we are not allowed to call a taxi for you. Then, the injured person had lunch on the 17th of March, we said he can pay later that day, but when he did, it was only after reminding him 2 times. And we will finish with the most important thing: bringing a person (a girl) from outside the hostel into your room. That is against all rules and regulations. And then you closed yourself inside your room when we wanted to remind you that check-out is at 10 am (and it was later than that). The list can continue, but we stop here. Jeremy and Daniel, no problem about you, but your 2 friends are not the people we want in our hostel for the future, for their non-respectful behaviour and missleading comments. The Reception.

Front desk is closed for the whole afternoon which made check in a little bit difficult. It is a little far from town -- the bus system is great except it ends at 8 pm so if you want to go into town even just for dinner you will most likely have to get a taxi back. Great views of Mont Blanc though, good breakfast, friendly staff, and nice rooms for a hostel!

Very good experience. Only concern was no guest kitchen/dining area - nowhere to prepare and eat food comfortably.
