Closing the hostel between 10am to 14pm was surprising and annoying! I´ve been in many HI Hostel aroudn the world: Denmark, China, Germany, but this one has this strange rule to close in the middle of the day. The staff was rather friendly, but what seems to be the person in charge of the Hostel (a middle-aged flemmish woman) was quite unfriendly! Although the Hostel is well-located and cheap! However, the lack of computers for internet was quite a big deal too, I had to find and go to an Internet café located rather far away (I didn´t bring my own laptop and would have liked to use a computer in the hostel - e.g. at the Copenhagen Downtown Hostel, the staff provides laptops for free in exchange of an ID, I find this great!). The atmosphere also is utterly cold and is so 80´s!
I thought that switching off the free wifi during the hours that office was closed was a bit cheeky. I had a room facing the street, was woken up intermittently by noisy groups meeting/yelling at each other just nearby, but that couldn't be helped, I suppose. Other than that, everything else was fair.
It will much better to provide free hot water(for tea). The door in the bath room is broken, should be fixed.
Noisy location
We have just completed an around the world trip where we have stayed in a number of HI hostels, most of them very good. We were surprised to find that the HI hostel in Brussels was the most expensive and the worst out of all of them. We opted for a double room which was like a prison cell. The main light flickered and the bottom bunk's lamp did not work so it was also dark. It wasn't really an ensuite as there was no toilet and we were shocked to find that there was no soap provided in the communal toilets or the in room sink. Very poor indeed.
don't like the hostel closes from 10am to 2pm, can't even stay inside the hostel
Good place to stay
Best location but did not like that the hostel is closed from 10 to 14
Would recommend.
