The guy behind the desk wasn't very motivated to help to find a spot to park our motorcycles. Diner wasn't possible, because there were no people to prepare it.
Moldy room with smelly wet carpet. People drinking and partying in the annex hallways late at night. The bathrooms and kitchen was absolutely filthy with garbage bins overflowing and this was at 8.30 in the morning. Kitchen cupboards were dirty and Lino in kitchen and dining area and main foyer was blackened with dirt. No place for my family.
Location was good for drivers as you don't need to drive into Bath but parking can be an issue. The hostel is out of town and up a steep hill so use bus 18 which runs frequently. Water pressure in showers is poor and many share facilities are in a poor state of repair, eg doors do not shut, tables in dining room are sticky.
Nice location. Out of town. Enjoyed walking up the hill through the fields to it. Reception was pretty terrible. He was more focused on saying goodbye to the other receptionist. Then forgot to give me my discount (had to ask twice in fact). Forgot to give me the key as well!
A very good experience to re-visit the hostel. The kitchen is very clean and tidy. Good to see a new lounge which is very spacious.
The room was good and the food very good. However, the parking situation for thos with cars is far from satisfactory.
I can't comment on staff or service as I had no personal interaction with them. I found the beds comfortable and the duvets nice and warm although I found the room in general very cold throughout the night - pretty much down to being in a stone building with single glazed windows - not much can be done to help that.
loved this hostel, the annexe, the lounge self catering and dining room areas and the staff were very knowledgable and approachable. Close to town, going downhill anyway and bus stop right outside coming back. Sat Nav reference took us to North Road above hostel but Bathwick Hill easy to find. parking on street fine.
Some small lighting on the way up from the street might be good for people coming back at night.
In the lounge the tv did nt work. There was a 3 pound charge per night for non memebers who book on line but your only made aware of this on arrival. had great 5 nights and days at Bathwick hill, and bath. We made full use of self catering kitchen which is brilliant, could do with second microwave.
