Great location, lovely strong hot shower, good kitchen and large dining and communal areas. There were no lockers in the rooms to lock valuables away while out of the hostel. The heating boiler was broken when I stayed and a portable heater was not mentioned till the second night, when I overheard it being mentioned to a new guest and then I asked for one.

Lacked microwave utensils. Shower was push button freezing then boiling then stopped. 40 pound was more than I have paid for much more comfortable B&B rooms that have ensuite and TV. The hostel was nearly empty so it was galling to pay 40 pound for a bunk bed.

One shower didn't work. No chair in room. School groups were sometimes unsupervised, running and playing loudly in the corridors.
Hostel Overview
SYHA Aviemore hostel is located about 5 minutes from Aviemore town centre and its bustling nightlife. The area offers an impressive range of outdoor activities from skiing in winter, to canoeing and hiking in summer. The Scottish Whisky Trail is also nearby. Accommodation is in 2-6+ bedded rooms, with private and family rooms available. Facilities include internet access, laundry and kitchen.The area around Aviemore hostel is host to a diverse range of wildlife, everything from deer, capercaille, eagles and arctic hares. For something unusual you could go on a guided trip with a Park Ranger, take part in the annual ‘Thunder in the Glens’ Harley Davidson rally or take a sled dog ride!
