Liked this hostel. Clean and comfortable. Like all of the NZ hostels I stayed in, the staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly. I would stay there again and definitely recommend it.

We enjoyed our stay, however we suggest the following improvements: 1. Put paper towels in the two (o) floor bathrooms. 2. Wipe down the staircase rails -they were sticky. 3. Put up a note as to how access Closed Captioning on TV. 4. Repair the bench which now only has two boards instead of three- on the deck. %. Change your coffee supplier to one that provides enough coffee in a packet to make a cup of coffee. If you use one packet it is like drinking dish water. Since we have to pay extra for coffee make it worth while. 5. Provide sponges or dish rags for washing dishes and paper towels for the sink in the kitchen.

On 24/2/12 abt 4.30pm, my sister checked into a female dorm. Found a guy sleeping in the female dorm. Something not right. On 27/2/12 abt 6.30 am , my roommate went to the TV room, found 3 guys sleeping there (with mattresses and blankets, supposingly they had slept the night there). Something not right again.

All very good. Only concern was I left a book there (a library) and when I went back two days later it wasn't in lost and found and i got told to check the communial book area. Its a shame the staff couldnt hold it for a week.

Having travelled half way around the world and having collected my rental car I then had to find the Auckland YHA. The area was not particularly good where it was located. I had to park my car in a car park that was close by at a cost of $36 and was amazed to find prostitutes in the area when I left the car park. The cost I paid for 1 night was $80 and so I made the best of it. The overall cost I paid when compared to the motels I subsequently stayed in meant I should have got a lot more for my money than I actually got. However, I was very tired and just wanted somewhere safe to sleep and it covered that purpose. As a result I did not stay in any further YHA places whilst I was on holiday in NZ because I used Motels where there is free off road parking.

The reception staff were efficient but not really friendly. At the times we stayed at the hostel there was on going staff training on the reception. A warm welcome goes a long way, especially when you have been booked out from the other Auckland YHA hostel!
Hostel Overview
Auckland City YHA is located at the top of Queen Street, this former hotel comprises mainly of twin and double rooms with some multishare rooms. An onsite travel booking service is available 7 days where local activities and domestic travel throughout New Zealand can be booked. Internet access is also available in the hostel.The hostel provides easy access to the city centre and is surrounded by cafes, restaurants and pubs. This is the ideal hostel to start or finish your New Zealand adventure, all in the excitement of the city in a safe and secure environment. Staff are at hand 24 hours a day.
