It is a perfect hostel for groups. For individuals it is soulless, the rooms were cold, Breakfast not sufficient available as groups got in first. Not enough seats even. It didn't start well as taxi driver couldn't find it. It is labelled as a hotel outside so very confusing. Wifi in room was good. Would not recommend it to travellers.

The rooms are very big - no bunkbeds so the rooms feel very spacious. The hostel is in the basement of the hotel so it's a little damp feeling but it's not terrible! For the price you really can't complain! One thing I would say is that the directions given by the hostel website/staff are useless - make sure you google map it well as it's a little hard to find. I arrived after dark and got lost which was a little stressful in a strange country where I can't communicate with the locals! Also the hostel doesn't provide any maps or travel advice - the staff's english is basic so it's hard to ask for help as they may not understand. If you're prepared for it then you'll be fine and many of the main attractions are within walking distance. If not (like me) then the subway is cheap and easy for getting around without a map to guide you!

The hostel doesn't really have a backpackers atmosphere. It's located in the basement of a rather uniform hotel. But the rooms are big (no bunk beds), it's quiet and the location is ok (but not great).

The staff is very unfriendly. Very rude. We came one day early and the man who attended us shouted us. And another thing we paid and agreed a price through this website. They increase the prices of our stay because these days in CHina was the celebration of the chinese revolution.

Rudest workers ever, and whenever you ask them questions, they always give you a "stop bothering me and go away" look. They said there was wifi, but it would not work in the rooms or lobby. Many other people had complained, and they still refused to do anything about it. Oh, and any pictures you see of the hostel online...

Beijing Far East International Youth Hostel, accepted as the best hostel in Beijing, is situated in a reserved and protected Hutong area, typical local residency neighborhood with many local restaurants,small stores, post office, Bank of China ,supermarkets etc. Just 10 minutes' walk away from the alleyways to Tian'anmen Square, Qianmen Business center and forbidden City. The hostel was the former residence of a warlord in the beginning of the last century. It is in a traditional Chinese courtyard and the houses are built in the style of Qing dynasty, quiet and comfortable. You can take a traditional rickshaw or a self-guided map tour to explore the area. Many of the historical attractions including Tian'anmen Square, Forbidden City, Liulichang (Antique Market) and Former embassy area... The hostel also provides bicycle rentals so that the visitors may enjoy Hutong Area at their own pace. We guarantee that your stay at Beijing Far East International Youth Hostel will be an unforgettable experience of Beijing and China.
