Arrived at 16 no one there. manager came at 21.30! Neighbour let us in! House was nice and cosy. In the end had to pay more, than the internet booking suggested!

Unfortunately the hot tub next to the hostel is only open on saturdays :( Small supermarket next door, but very expensive.

There were a lot of flies in the kitchen but otherwise the hostel is fine.

A little noisy in room # 10 when people use the restroom... maybe due to water pump location.

The location of this hostel is not the best, since one has to drive a long way to reach the interesting sites of the region. The description of the location is very poor and we got lost on the way. They should write better directions on the website

We were accomodated in the house with balkony - looked newer than the other one. This one was realy great.

the staff is very friendly - we stayed there two times and its a nice place to start for the highlands - unfortunately the hostel is a bit noisy

Hostel Overview
Árnes is conveniently located close to all major tourist attractions in the South of Iceland, appr. 90 km from Reykjavík. Next door to the Hostel there is a swimming pool with a hot pot and a licenced restaurant, which provides lunch and dinner for individuals and groups. In the area around the Hostel there are good hiking trails. Appr. 30 km. from Árnes is Þjórsárdalur, Valley of the river Þjórsá, through which three other rivers flow as well, a landscape of sharp contrasts such as flourishing birch woods, sandy lava fields, rivers and waterfalls. Gjáin is a stunning ravine with lush vegetation, numerous springs, bizarre rock formations and a pictureseque little waterfall, Gjárfoss. Other remarkable waterfalls in the valley are Hjálparfoss and Háifoss. A flourishing farming community lived in þjórsárdalur after the settlement until the valley was swamped by ash from an eruption from Mt. Hekla in 1104 A.D. One of the ruined farms, Stöng, has been excavated and served as the model for the nearby Saga-Age farm reconstruction (Þjóðveldisbærinn). Next Hostels: Laugarvatn, 56 km and Fljótsdalur, 50 km.Peaceful place to relax in, in a beautiful nature.
