Next door there is a place called Ganta Cafe - good food. There are plenty of places in Miyanoura though and you get a good map when you check-in. |

Don't miss the Jomon sugi (7,200 yr old cedar tree) or the Shiritani Unsuikyo Forest hikes. The Jomon sugi hike is 8-12 hrs long and fairly rigorous, while the Shiritani hike is about 3-5 hrs and much less taxing on the body. Both are well worth the physical excersion, especially if you're into photography and the outdoors. Also, Ohkonotaki falls on the west-side of the island is beautiful, along with the plethora of onsenn (natural hot spring baths) scattered along the coast. Yudomari was my favroite as it was literally right next to the ocean, nestled below the village on the hillside. |

The hostel provides an english and japanese map of the surrounding town of Miyanoura. Kagoshima Barbeque and a small family run place close by (cannot remember the name) were my favorites while I was there. Definitely try some flying fish while on the island, as it is the local delicacy. Shochu too! |
