The Whitby Museum is very eclectic. Great fossil and ship section, but lots of other quirky stuff including a passenger pigeon. What you get being a port city in an empire. |

Up the coast for 10 miles to Straithes, a very lovely old town. Can't drive down into the town and a steepish walk, but so worth it. |

HI Hostel Whitby YHAA converted Mansion House perched on a headland next to Whitby's famous abbey, the hostel offers spectacular harbour views. Beaches and hiking paths are nearby as well as the Captain Cook Museum and the North York Moors Steam Railway. Accommodation is in 2-6+ bedded rooms and facilities include kitchen and evening meals, snacks at our tearoom, behind Abbey Visitor centre which is open all day. | more...... |
