verona. despite being in vicenza, the accomodation was cheaper in comparison to verona, and was only a 40 minute train ride. it was nice being in a slightly quirky place which was close enough to verona. |

Padova, it is a beautiful city. |

01 Jul 2008 Colleen, USA:
There is a place that sells semi-freddo (like gelato) on the east side of the Piazza Biade. It was by far the best ice-cream experience I've had in Italy. Try the fichi-mascarpone (fig-mascarpone) or the arancia-canella (orange-cinnamon). €2 for a 2 scoop cone and it tastes amazing! |

Vicenza is the home of Palladian architecture (although Palladio wasn't born there). The Teatro Olimpico is beautiful, if classical theater or architecture are your thing. Also, the Villa Rotonda, probably Palladio's most famous work, is about a 30 min walk from the hospital. Check the times if you want to visit, though. Because it's privately owned, it's only open a few times a week. |

Vicenza is a short train ride from Padua, Verona and Bassano del Grappa, all beautiful cities with interesting city-centers and numerous things to see. Bassano del Grappa is the smallest, home to some of Italy's best grappas, and a cute little town. Verona had the most other tourists when I visited, but it IS the setting for Shakepeare's Romeo and Juliet. If you go to Padua, don't miss the impressive architecture of the church of S.Antonio. |
