The pizza shop next door...pizza for 5/6 euros and the local supermarket between the vaporetti stop and the hostel was very friendly. Not so cheap but Ca d'oro in San Polo (its in the Time Out guidebook) was really nice for a relatively inexpensive venetian meal surrounded by locals ( it was 45 euros for a three course meal and wine for both of us) |

Try and get to some of the modern art galleries...ca pesaro and the peggy guggenheim for example..they really crystallise the elegance of venice in a modern and fascinating way. |

The food in the hostel is not very expensive but the breakfast is very poor. Since the hostel knows this, they are selling the essentials of a breakfast as "extras" |
