For good eats check out... 10 Mar 2011 Nicola, England & Wales:
We were charged to put our bags in storage once we checked out the following day and were allowed on shower within 24 hours - if we wanted another one we had to pay. (The shower door was locked so reception could monitor the one shower per person rule). In addition the shower and toilet were not clean. I have honestly been completely put off staying in a HI hostel after that experience and have heard very similar complaints amongst other people I have met who stayed in the hostel . I have never written a bad review about any hostel I have stayed in but feel that you should know how bad it was as it has brought down the reputation of HI hostels as a whole.

HI Hostel Uyuni - HI Salar De Uyuni

Hostelling International Salar de Uyuni is the gateway HI-Hostel for any excursions to the biggest salt flat in the world 'El Salar de Uyuni' and the beautiful lagoons, flamingos and countryside along the off-road treks to Chile or Argentina. A very solid, newly renovated building hosts shared and double rooms, offering international standard accommodation in this remote corner of the Bolivian highlands. Highlight: reception and TV-saloon are built in pure salt stones! The hostel offers hot showers, breakfast and baggage storage, as well as an in-house travel agency called PUCARA-TOURS that will be happy to provide you with all kinds of information and offers you unforgettable 1 to 6 day excursions to the salt flat, colored lagoons, Inca mummies etc. The agency personnel speaks English. Location: We are 250m from the Bus-Terminal (Potosí or La Paz) or the Train Station (4 times per week: Tupiza-Villazon or Oruro) and 100m from the famous Clock Tower in the centre of the village - right in front of Migration office (important while leaving for Chile).
