An area day-trip from Runde to Orsta via the 654 & 653; at Orsta, take 655 to Saebo & the ferry to Leknes & continue on 655, along the beautiful Norangsdalen, to Hellesylt, taking the Geirangerfjorden ferry to Geiranger & head north on the 63 with its initial 11 switchbacks to Eidsdal & the ferry to Linge & the 650 to Sjoholt & the E136/E39 to Alesund, This was a wonderful day trip that showed the diversity of gorgeous geography. Roads are good; ferry rides nice, especially the hour-long crossing on the Geirangerfjordan. We traveled before the high season so traffic was light and ferry crossings easy.
Don't miss... 18 Aug 2008 Thilo, Germany:
A boat trip on the "Agila"around the island and "climbing" up the bird watching rocks. Well what else you are coming out to Runde ?!

HI Hostel Runde Hostel Information Page

Runde is well known for the 230 bird species that occupy the island every spring and summer. The most numerous is the puffin with about 100.000 pairs. The surrounding sea has the highest marine biodiversity in the whole of Norway, lavishly providing feed for the birds, whales and seals and seafood for people. Bridges and an underwater tunnel connect Runde to the mainland. There are daily boat trips from the harbour to the bird rock when the weather allows it, and it can also quite easily be accessed on foot. | more......
