The train journey from Nice to any of the hill villages ie. Saorge, Tendes, on the Cuneo line. (Change trains at Breil sur Roye). These villages are worlds apart from the french Riviera coast.

Take a day trip to Monaco from Nice and if your heading over to Spain make an overnight stop in Avignon. There is a shuttle bus from the TGV station for 1.20 Euro.

Anywhere! My daughter closed her eyes and stuck a pin into a map and we ended up in very un- touristy town in the hills behind Genoa and had a great time there. Otherwise, Limerick in Ireland.

dont buy water in the shops, in the supermarket arround the corner from the hostel, casino, you can get a 1.5 liter bottle for 18 cent,compared with 2 euro for the same bottle in other places
