HI Hostel Lochranza SYHASituated in the north of the Isle of Arran in a beautiful lochside village is Lochranza Youth Hostel. Almost surrounded by the hills and complete with a thirteenth-century ruined castle, the village is a wonderful place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life for a few days. Relax and enjoy yourself in this comfortable former hotel right on the water's edge. This is a place where you can observe nature, with spectacular wildlife right on the doorstep - red deer are abundant, there are seals on the rocks and eagles soar overhead. Lochranza is the ideal base for tackling the many trails and ridges of the Arran mountains including Goat Fell, the island's highest peak. For the less ambitious the Cock of Arran walk, the finest low level trek on the island, starts and finishes at the Hostel. But if you prefer not to walk too far, Arran has many other activities to offer including on and off-road biking, pony-trekking, fishing, golfing and watersports. There are also plenty of visitor attractions: Scotland's newest distillery is a few minutes away from the Hostel, Brodick Castle has fine gardens, the Standing Stone Circles of Machrie are impressive, to name but a few. Everything you might want to see and do is accessible by a good bus service, which offers a great value day pass. Don't miss: Goat Fell for the fit & well equipped ,Cock of Arran Walk, Brodick Castle and the circular drive/cycle right round the island - 'Scotland in miniature' Bike hire nearby.
