It’s a unique case of renewing a more than 120 year old protected building in Slovenia, in accordance with the most modern guidelines of passive houses. In winter the house is heated through floor heating system, with the help of the heat pump, which uses the heat from underground water as the source of warmth and with an additional installed system of central ventilation by recapturing the heat. Due to these solutions the heating is extremely efficient in terms of low impact on the environment. In summer months the entire building is cooled through the central ventilation system, which uses the cold underground water as the source of low temperature. Passive cooling is sustainable and has no negative effects on the environment. The system of active cooling with the help of the heat pump, used when passive cooling is not enough, is also seen as sustainable and energy efficient. The rooms are being cooled with the lowest possible need for energy. The waste heat produced in cooling the rooms is used to preheat water for sanitary purposes. Due to appropriate climate and constant supply of fresh air in all rooms, the stay at the hostel is a pleasant experience throughout the year. Another specialty of the Eco Hostel is the restaurant, set in the old cellar of the house, equipped with most modern system of ventilation that catches heat and supplies enough fresh air from outside. Guests will be able to book budget price board. There are 52, four in a room. The terrace can accept 60 guests. The food offered will be locally produced, as part of the eco-experience. The guests, who want to prepare their own food, have three equipped apartments 65 – 105 m2 from 4 to 8 people in two separate bedrooms for two.
