You won't beat the hostel restaurant's three course evening meal (Eur 6.00) for wholesome food, well cooked and good value. The cafes in the museums and town centre we found pricey but we did stumble on one comfortable and clean place - Pizza Bisi at 4, Goldschmiedgasse (opposite the Stephansdom) where coffee, pasta and pizzas were reasonably priced. If you're visiting Haydn's House (or just fancy some really good Viennese cuisine, with several cheap options such as Tagesuppe (Soup of the Day), in a cosy, friendly cafe that also has evening entertainment events, head for G'Schamster Diener at Stumpergasse, 19, Mariahilf. (Tram 2 to Burggarten then Bus 57A to Bruckengasse). There's a small grocery shop (Food Corner) and a LIDL supermerket close to the hostel for provisions. |
