Sellfoss, tolles Hostel! Auf gar keinen Fall zum HI Hostel in Kirkjubaejaerklaustur!!! Total abgeschottet, die halten einen Polarfuchs, an ner 10 m Radiuskette, das arme Ding. Überall ausgestopfte Tiere.. BÄÄÄÄH!

The volcano museum right on Hwy 1 -- wonderful film about the 2010 eruption and the recovery of the family farm and area. Not to be missed.

There is a snack bar next there (that will also happily store your luggage for free) but be aware that their opening times are not very reliable. They sometimes just close during the day although it says outside "open all day". Also try the cafeteria at the museum, they have an 800ISK flatrate for soup and bread and they have fantastic cakes, too.

Obviously, Skogafoss. Consider hiking up along the river - it has lots of small waterfalls

A wonderful walk up the steps at the side of the waterfall and along the river (with it's further 23 waterfalls - we didn't count them but read that and it's most likely correct - all stunning) up to the footbridge over the river when you're within sight of the two glaciers. It was supposed to take 2-3 hours but took us 5, but we did stop a lot for photos/to read books/eat snacks etc. We returned via the road as quicker but much less scenic apart from some wonderful views of the glaciers and coastline etc.

HI Hostel Skógar
