It was hard to find a good meal in La rochelle. That said, I was there during september and it was fairly quiet. and only ate out twice. Things seemed a little bit expensive given the quality of the food. |

If you are in France and haven't been to Bordeaux, you must check it out. Great food, dining out and night life, and good shopping too. If you're on a budget it's do-able, but stick to the hostels ad the hotels can get expensive if you are travelling on your own. |

Do not eat the food in the hostel. Breakfast consists of a bowl of cereal in a plastic tray with warm UHT milk, frothy orange juice and a few pieces of french role, if the "residents" haven't eaten it all before you get there. |

La Rochelle is an awesome city, with buzzing nightlife if you walk right out of the front of the hostel and then right again, following the path up the sea front to the bar district. Loads of great pubs, absoloutley rammed in the summer even in week nights with non-aggressive people, not like the UK. The clubs are very pricey, as are the bars in the summer but its well worth it. |

Aquarium, Les Minemes beach and coastal walk, old castles, cathedral, town hall ... very historical and all lovely. Use the water buses to save legs. |
