loved the breakfast at Kyoto, didn't stop for food in kyoto though, except for a rice ball from Lawsons. okonomiyaki great in hiroshima |

I liked the ramen at "Kairikia", not far from the Sanjo-Kawaramachi intersection, where you can get a good meal for around 800 Yen. Going the Kawaramachi north from the intersection it's on the right side, with a red and white sign. And it's got an Englisch menu ;) |

I really liked going hiking in the mountains in the north-west of Kyoto, not far from the hostel. Check out the hiking maps that you can buy at the hostel. Although they're in Japanese they're very helpful for finding your way. |

While in Kyoto, I toured the Imperial Palace and Sento Imperial Palace. They were very beautiful, with interesting history. If you choose to go to these places, know that you can't visit them both on the same day, and you have to get permission ahead of time to visit. Permission is easy to get--there's an office for that on the premesis--but if you don't arrive at the right time you might have to wait a few hours, or until the next day, so go early. But it's definitely worth all the trouble. |
