Go from the hostel 2 + km around the bay into the town. Near the end of the short line of shops and restaurants, there is a fish and chips place on the right. Great owner, good food, large portions, best price in town. The building is painted white. |

If you are a goofy kid, you shouldn't even go to Kiakoura. There is no nightlife to speak of there. Listen to the surf, make dinner in the hostel's fantastic kitchen, talk to the other travelors. |

Don't miss Kuini. She's the manager (I think), and she's the best! In addition to being very smart with a fun and wry sense of humor, she has the rare quality of being both helpful AND competent. She will book your activities and transports seamlessly door to door and get it right. Do NOT miss a walk along the peninsula. On the rocky shore with the seals or high on the cliffs for the great view, the peninsula is not to be missed. Finally, do not miss the kitchen gatherings. If you have the quality of maturity and need a place to chill, come to this hostel, hang out in the kitchen and recharge. |

Tired of being solicited for tours every moment of your stay in New Zealand? Go to Wellington. It is good city and a real city with real people. You can purchase goods at fair prices - much lower than in all the endless skydive/bungee places on the south. |
