ALCARTAZ!! the best $26 dollars i spent. A full day (if you want it to be) of fascinating stuff. Do not miss it. Nice walk up to Fort Point and the Golden Gate Bridge from the hostel. BOOK THE TRIP TO YOSEMITE! - HI Midpines too. It sounds like a lot of cash but its soooo worth it. The place is amazing! And if you've been travelling on a budget, probably the best meal (included in the price) you'll of had in a while too! lol. |

Short on time = Catch the Cal Train to Monterey ($18) for a couple of days. Time to spare = Hire a car and drive to LA. Check out Cambria & SLO. See the most amazing coast. Stay at HI Santa Monica. |

Tommy's on Van Ness Blvd. is great for "comfort food". Decidedly not for folks who do not eat meat, but for excellent turkey, roast beef, ham...all at good prices, this is the place to go. |

If possible, rent a car and travel north along Rt. One to Pt. Reyes and Inverness. The hiking trails along the coast are spectacular. There are buses, but they are few and far between. |
