Big Sur / Cambria(& hostel) to the south, Santa Cruz / San Francisco to the north Hostels found in Santa Cruz, at Pigeon Point, Montara and Marin Headlands are all ones that I would highly recommend.

Monterey Hostel is a beuatifully warm and friendly place to stay. Highly recommended! All of the staff - especially Tom and Dave - were so friendly and helpful. It made us feel at ease immediately. The hostel itself is really beautifully and tastefully furnished, and the rooms are very comfortable. You will have a great sleep on the Tempur mattresses, too! The restaurants that Tom recommended were all great!

Die Jugendherberge liegt sehr günstig in der Nähe von Cannery Row, dem Monterey Aquarium, der Altstadt und Fisherman's Wharf und verfügt über sehr gute Busverbindungen. Ebenfalls nicht weit ist der Monterey Bay Coastal Trail mit Cafés, Geschäften sowie Fahrrad- und Kajakverleih.
