Nothing to do in the Youth Hostel...unless you want to use the internet...currently 2CHF for 15mins, 3CHF for 30mins...so go out if you can afford it. Mr.Pickwicks pub is just around the corner and serves English beers and does good food. Evening entertainment is also good. The pub even opens up at 4am on a Saturday and Sunday for a 'sober up' full english breakfast, currys & coffee's etc . DO NOT GO OUT ALONE. I went out for a walk on my own the first night and accidentally ended up walking through the red light district and being followed by a couple of gangs who made it clearly trying to intimidate me. Safe enough during the day though. |

Don't miss Palais Wilson right next to the hostel. It was built after WWI to serve as a main building of League of Nations. It's not allowed to enter the building as a status of tourist, but the building still looks great even from the outside. |

The jet d'eau fountain at the lake is supposed to be Geneva's main attraction however it wasn't working during my stay. The old town was good for antiques. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND jumping on the train which was about 35CHF and visiting Montreux. This was a lovely town full of good shops, music, food and parks for the kids. A great place to catch the Golden Pass train into the mountains. A short walk along the banks of the lake takes you to the Chateau de Chillon, a medieval castle. This is a great day out for the the whole family and is by far the best example I have EVER seen. From stepping through the gates into the courtyard, was like stepping back in time or onto the set of a medieval film. The sounds, the smells the workers and the cobbles - the castle was truly superb. Catch the train back to Geneva from Villeneuve if you don't fancy the walk back to Montreux. DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT VISITING THE CASTLE. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. |
