02 Okt 2009 Kristin, USA - Vereinigte Staaten:
not budget, but the best pizza we've had in china so far: the italian place on shamian island. great desserts too. |
13 Sep 2009 Theodorus, Niederlande:
take the small ferry just at the river and visit Shamian island-a real oasis in busy Guanghzhou. |
01 Sep 2009 Andrzej, Polen:
Get out of the hostel, turn left towards the ferry, then left again - here's a nice street with some local diners. Otherwise, walk to Lu Ju Lu (next perpendicular left) and there's a nice big street diner in the evenings in the middle of it. |
01 Sep 2009 Andrzej, Polen:
Take a daytrip to Kaiping, the UNESCO heritage place, esp. the Zili Village - it's a bit expensive but definitely worth going (bus from the Long Distance Bus Station, 57Y one way; last bus back to GZ leaves at 1940; in Kaiping, take a taxi for 120Y there and back, the driver will wait for you on the spot). In Kaiping, walk around the river to see hundreds old rusty boats piled up one against the other which seem to be the local slum area, pictoreque in a way |

02 Apr 2009 Chris, Australien:
I tried to catch train to Guilin ( told 'no seats' ) and ended up flying which was quite cheap and reasonably easy to get to airport. EXCEPT airport shuttle is hard to find so give yourself an extra half hour - is under the foot bridge and not in the main GZ bus station. They leave at half hour intevals. |
02 Apr 2009 Chris, Australien:
Good and really cheap meals in restaurants near the hostel. No english spoken, but friendly staff - point at photos on wall. Try the local fried fish. Try the local Pearl River Beer, cheap and good drop. |
02 Apr 2009 Chris, Australien:
Ferry or boat ride along the Pearl River at night, or just walk along the promenade directly in front of the Hostel. Very pretty city at night. |
02 Apr 2009 Chris, Australien:
Get a MTR card from a 7-eleven and use the MTR to visit all the attractions around the city. Easy to read tourist map avail from hostel for 8 yuan. Lots of stuff to see around the centre of city. Try Citizen ( Peoples ) Park for a quiet sit in the shade watching old guys play cards. |
24 Dez 2008 Stephen, USA - Vereinigte Staaten:
Take the ferry (literally across the street from the hotel) to Shamian Island. From there, visit the fish market, Shamain Island, Qingping market and the main pedestrian shopping street north of the market. |
11 Dez 2008 Karen, England & Wales:
Not budget but Lucy's on the island does great food. |
