As the hostel was so centrally situated there were a few places of choice. We chose Ghekkens behind the travel information shop which was great. Good food at a reasonable price.

With weather set fair we had a fabulous full day trip to the glacier which was well organised, to enjoy great scenery. Despite fair/damp weather a stroll along the nature trails is a good day out too and free!

We took the ferry to Flam and did the Norway in a Nutshell trip which was very good and stayed a night at Flam at the end of the day.

Don't miss the walking tours, you will have a fantastic view on the blue and red paths! You can even start in the evening as it gets dark very late.

Hiking in the hills behind Balestrand (trails are very well-marked; the TI office is a great resource for this). Hopperstad Church in Vik (a 15-minute boatride away).

HI Hostel Balestrand

Bei Prüfung der Verfügbarkeit bitte beachten, dass die Jugendherberge nur saisonal geöffnet ist. Der Tourismus kann in Balestrand auf eine lange Tradition zurückblicken. Der Ort bietet sehr gute Angel- und Wandermöglichkeiten und verfügt über mehrere Kunstgalerien und historische Stätten. Die Jugendherbere hat erst kürzlich ein Aktivzentrum am Fjord gebaut. Hier informieren Aquarien, Modelle und eine Diashow über das Leben im Sognefjord. Außerdem werden Folk-Musik und Aktivitäten im Freien wie Grillen und Angeln angeboten. Alle Schlafzimmer haben eigenes Bad, die meisten auch Balkon. Der Preis für 3-Bett-Zimmer gilt auch für Gruppen/Familien mit 2 Erwachsenen und 2 Kindern unter 12 Jahren.
