07 Aug 2009 Andrea, USA:
If you are a business traveler, this is not a good place to stay, as there is nowhere to hang one's clothing securely, without it being rumpled. The larger locker in the basement had a moldy smell. I checked out after one night. |

26 Jul 2009 Kathleen, USA:
It was really nice to find a few menus at the entrance counter. Rumi, a Middle Eastern place a 10 block walk away, & Mayur Kabab, the Indian restaurant next door, were really good. For even cheaper eats, I saved half my take-out meals, & added fresh stuff to them in the hostel kitchen- "make yer own" works wonderfully! Up K St a couple of blocks there's a Mexican/Salvadoran restaurant whose name I've lost- good, & cheap. Along the Mall, a "half smoke" dog w the works tasted real good, FYI. |

Getting a SmarTrip Metro pass is a good idea, if you're staying for more than a day or two. You can get an Inauguration version online pre-trip for an extra 5$ over the standard one- for me, that's a serious keepsake. Personally, I was greatly affected by Mr. Lincoln's Memorial, and the Korean War Memorial, both as tremendous sculpture and as emblems of duress transformed into nobility. Then, buying a membership at the Smithsonian Castle on the National Mall adds enormously to the free entry to all the incredible museums. Now ya got yr 10% discount on all yr irresistible take-homes, see? |

Before you get here, make sure your shoes & socks like walking at least as much as you do. Bring everything you might need for yr sore feet, & use same to keep being glad you're in "Walkington" DC! There are a couple of pharmacies close by- but how much nicer it is not to have to put those shoes back on again! My experience tells me where to go next is back here again- I wasn't even half-way done. |

26 Jul 2009 Emma, Scotland:
the monuments walking tour offered by the hostel - very informative and enjoyable, wear comfy shoes though! |

24 Jul 2009 Sagie, Israel:
Most of the political highlights are literally a walk away from the hostel: The White House, Capitol Hill, Washington Monument, Lincoln Monument, WWII & Vietnam Memorials... Take a day to walk around all these beautiful places around National Mall. |
